About the Exhibition

The Visaginas Museum invites visitors to discover the unique exhibition of minerals and photography “Reading the Stones of Visaginas or Mineralia in terra”, presented as part of the “Visaginas – City of Collections” project.

For the first time in Lithuania, a private collection of minerals and rocks, considered by geologists to be one of the most significant in the country, is being publicly exhibited. The collection consists of more than 1,500 specimens from 38 countries around the world, complemented by unique fossils and material replicas.

The exhibited minerals reveal not only their scientific value but also their exceptional natural beauty – the diversity of crystal forms, colours and structures created by nature over millions of years. The exhibition is complemented by artistic photography, offering a closer look at the world of minerals and revealing microstructural details that are invisible to the naked eye.

The exhibition is a dialogue between scientists and a collector, inviting visitors to explore Visaginas’ sociocultural identity through nature, history and cultural memory. The treasures of the Earth become symbols of the city’s history and identity.

Who created the exhibition?

The exhibition is based on the mineral and rock collection accumulated by collector Andrei Safronov, as well as his photography. The exhibition is presented by the Visaginas Museum as part of the “Visaginas – City of Collections” project.
