In the Footsteps of Čiurlionis

We begin our series of Christmas events with the concert programme ‘In the Footsteps of Čiurlionis’ – an interpretation of the works of Lithuanian musical genius Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, presented by two masters of jazz and improvisational music: saxophonist Janas Maksimovičius and pianist Dmitrijus Golovanovas.

As we mark the 150th anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis’s birth, his work continues to inspire artists across various disciplines, whilst his music moves and captivates listeners. The programme will feature arranged versions of M. K. Čiurlionis’s preludes for piano, revealing the beauty, fragility and grandeur of his music through the prism of jazz and improvisational music.

Preludes are an important genre within the traditions of improvisational music, one that blends perfectly with the performers’ creative philosophy. Their mastery and experience allow for a fresh perspective on Čiurlionis’s work and reveal unexpected interpretations of it.
