“Micro/Macro” – an Interdisciplinary Dance Performance for Children

About the Performance

What would happen if we looked into the mysterious world of insects through a powerful magnifying glass?

Kaunas Dance Theatre “Aura”, together with Inga Fontez Sakurako, artistic director of the butoh theatre “Okarukas”, visual artist and choreographer, presents the interdisciplinary dance performance “Micro/Macro” for children.

It is a journey into the mysterious micro-world of nature, where everything breathes with movement, sound and light. The performance combines contemporary dance, physical theatre, video projections and electronic music.

“Micro/Macro” is the first allegorical butoh dance performance for children in Lithuania, suitable for children aged 5 and over. It invites both children and adults to discover the fragility, beauty and mysteries of nature and reflect on humanity’s place on Earth.

The Idea

At the heart of the performance is the world of insects and the micro-world of nature. Through movement, sound, light and visual elements, the audience is invited to look at the familiar environment from a completely different perspective.

The performance encourages curiosity and sensitivity towards nature, while introducing children to contemporary dance and butoh through an imaginative, sensory experience.

Creative Team

Idea, director and choreographer: Inga Fontez Sakurako
Interdisciplinary artist, butoh master and founder of the “Okarukas” theatre.

Set and costume designer: Neringa Keršulytė
Golden Stage Cross award winner. Her costumes reveal the fascinating shapes and colours of the insect world.

Composer: Phil Von
An internationally recognised artist known for electronic and electro-flamenco music and performances. His music combines with sounds of nature to create a hypnotic atmosphere.

Lighting designer: Vilius Vilutis
One of Lithuania’s leading theatre lighting designers and a Golden Stage Cross award winner.

Video artist: Rimas Sakalauskas
Golden Stage Cross award winner, known for innovative video technologies and visual effects.

Performers: Dancers of Kaunas Dance Theatre “Aura”.

The creative team consulted naturalist Marius Čepulis and child psychologist Ieva Kirkilė to ensure that the performance is scientifically accurate and sensitive to its young audience.
