Premiere of the Theatre Performance “Ganytojas” (The Shepherd)

The Visaginas Cultural Centre Theatre “Gyvenimas gražus!” invites audiences to the premiere of “Ganytojas” (The Shepherd), based on the play “Žemaičių piemuo” by Lithuanian playwright Kazys Saja.

The performance commemorates the 225th anniversary of the birth of Motiejus Kazimieras Valančius, Bishop of Samogitia, educator, writer and organiser of the temperance movement. By resolution of the Lithuanian Parliament, 2026 has been designated the Year of Motiejus Valančius.

Valančius was one of the most influential figures in Lithuania’s religious, cultural and public life in the 19th century. He made a significant contribution to education, the preservation of the Lithuanian language and the development of national consciousness.
