The Dragon Boat Festival is an event that has attracted many enthusiasts in cities all over the world to try their hand at competitions using traditional dragon-headed boats. During the race, the boats are beaten with a drum and songs are sung. The rhythm produced by the instruments is linked in mythology to the heartbeat of the dragon and helps the rowers to steer the boat in synchrony and to reach maximum speed. Such boats were invented more than 2500 years ago.
